Espoo encourages the building of green roofs 

Urban greenery and local nature are important for both residents and biodiversity. Green roof construction helps bring nature into the most urban environments and increase living comfort. Green roofs collect rainwater, thanks to which they can also help with stormwater control and, thus, adaptation to climate change.

The green roof vision includes a collection of measures through which Espoo can promote the construction of green roofs and steer their design and implementation as a part of town planning, plot conveyance and building permit processes. The City Planning Committee has approved the green roof policies based the vision, and these policies encourage green roof construction in Espoo.
