FOREST TRIP WORKS ITS MAGIC

It was an early start for some. The first bus departed from Ahertajantie at 7.35 am on the morning of our annual forest trip. The weather looked a bit threatening, with spots of rain beginning to fall. But we were determined to make a success of this opportunity to get to know the new intake of students. At 9.30, with both classes present and several tutors on hand we got the ball rolling (quite literally) with the first games. The weather cleared up and the temperature was just right.

The idea was to have a few energetic games before lunch and then take a brisk 3.4 kilometre hike to a large pond. Some students took a refreshing swim and others rested on the idyllic shore. More games followed in the afternoon, culminating in an inter-class football game with few apparent rules and plenty of goals (three per team) before a penalty shoot-out decided the matter in favour of 24F. After a group photo and prizes for the winners (everyone was a winner!) we headed for home.

As with so much in the IB, we asked students for feedback and they clearly enjoyed the day out. The average grade of 8+ is one that speaks for itself. Can the forest trip be ever better next year? This is in the hands of the next generation of tutors. On this occasion the tutors did us proud. Thanks, everyone!
