Humanitarian Relief Work in Etis

HUMANITARIAN RELIEF WORK IN ETIS
IB 1 students Farha Gul Bahari and Yasmin Hamid organised a bake sale on 13 October. Numerous Etis students supported them by contributing treats from their cultures. The funds generated from the bake sale will be allocated towards providing essential sustenance and shelter for children in Sudan, as well as combating the scourge of starvation in Afghanistan. This comes at a crucial time, with a recent earthquake in Afghanistan leaving over 15,000 individuals injured and claiming the lives of more than 3,000. This shows how responsible and generous Etis community is. The students made over 360 euros and contributed half to each country. The hard work paid off and the students were satisfied with the results.

Following the crippling earthquake in Morocco and the unprecedented flooding in Libya, Ville Gummerus and Yasin Zaroug decided to set up a charity bake sale to raise money and seek donations of clothes for those affected by the disasters. On the 21st September, with the help of other students such as Hadi Kassim, Henrik Kääriäinen, Thomas Billington, Ekrem Atak and Yahye Moalim Ali, we were able to host a successful bake sale that raised 342 euros. The proceedings where distributed 50\50 for relief efforts in Morocco and Libya via the UK based charity Onenation. The clothing was donated to the Red Cross.

The coordinator adds: this was a heart-warming and spontaneous gesture in which so many IB students rallied to the cause, with many baking cookies, cakes and pies the previous day. Indeed, the whole school community should be congratulated on its generous response.
