Become a mentor

Mentoring is a powerful tool to improve your leadership, intercultural and problem-solving skills. On top of building a one-on-one relationship with a mentee, you will also become part of a wider network of professionals who value, like you, international mindsets and career development. Join EntryPoint as a mentor!

Application period for mentors : 10.10.2022 - 16.11.2022.

The programme will start on 11.1.2023 and end on 20.4.2023.

Why should I become a mentor at EntryPoint?

It takes willingness to share and 15-20 hours over 4 months to change someone's life for the better!

At EntryPoint you will:

  • Build a meaningful relationship with a professional who is not (yet) as far along as you in his or her career.
  • Develop your leadership, coaching, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Sharpen your intercultural skills.
  • Widen your networks with like-minded professionals, mentors and mentees.
  • Gain new perspectives and insights on your field but also on your own career development.
  • Contribute to your professional community.

… and so much more!

While EntryPoint enables mentees to network and figure out how they can establish themselves in the Finnish job market, mentors are under no obligation to employ or endorse their mentees.

Who can become a mentor?

To become a mentor, you need to fulfill the following requirements :

  • Have worked in Finland for 3 years minimum.
  • Speak and understand enough English, as it is the program's language.
  • Live in the Capital Region and be able to join the 4 group meetings that will be held in person in Otaniemi.
  • Have clear goals and expectations for the program.
  • Be willing and available to commit to the program for 4 full months.
  • Agree on the fact that EntryPoint is not a recruitment program, and that you don't have any employment or endorsement obligations towards your mentee.

Your age, nationality, mother tongues, status, gender, place of residence within the Capital Region, level of educations are not part of our requirements to become a mentor.

We welcome retired people, people on parental or studying leave. Entrepreneurs and academics are also welcome to become mentors!

How do the application and matching work?

  • Once the application period is closed, we will start the matching process. We might contact you to ask you more information.
    • We match the pairs based on the information you share with us in your application. The more honest and detailed answers you give, the more accurate the match. Take time to fill up your application form!
    • During the matching process, we might be in touch with your potential mentee and you. You will of course have the option to refuse the match.
  • On 9.12.2022, you will be informed of the final matching decision. If we have not found a match for you, we will also let you know by then.
  • After that, you have a month to relax! You will discover your mentee's exact identity on the launching session!

We reserve ourselves the right to change the ending dates of the application period, as well as the date of the pairs announcement.

How does a round go?

A round is composed by 4 group meetings where you will meet and interact with other mentees and mentors, and by one-on-one meetings between you and your mentee.

The time investment for a mentor is around 15-20 hours over 4 months.

It is recommended that a mentee and mentor meet 1:1 at least four times. Your mentee will be responsible for suggesting the dates, times and frequency of your meetings.

Mentors and mentees will also have access to career development sessions. By joining EntryPoint, you join our community of professionals, and we will make sure you make the best out of it!

How can I help my mentee?

It depends on your and your mentee’s common goals. In any case you will be helping this person by:

  • sharing your knowledge and experience on working life, business culture and job search strategies,
  • developing their professional network in Finland,
  • listening and offering advice on (not limited to) career-related matters,
  • making them feel included and confident.

What kind of support will I get from your team?

Before meeting your mentee, you will take part in a mentor orientation session to deep dive into your role and responsibilities.

You will meet the other mentors, get introduced to the round's practicalities and to the services that you can access as a participant.

Throughout the round, our team will remain fully available to address your questions and concerns!
