Career Club

If you want to take back the power of deciding for yourself, get into action and have fun through the process: join Career Club!

At the Espoo Career Club, you will learn and practice fundamental career development skills, grow your networks, and focus on defining concrete career-related goals and reaching results. Throughout the programme, we will support you in moving forward and taking action for yourself.

In the programme you will:

• Take two months to focus on yourself, for yourself, and take your career development into your own hands.
• Explore different topics, and practice tools and methods for self-reflection, goals-setting, and most importantly – for setting things in motion and getting into action!
• Receive many opportunities to build and deepen your networks, get new ideas, and find relevant information and services to support you and your career development.
• Career Club is designed to make you think, develop, and try new ideas. You will be intellectually stimulated during the sessions and receive assignments throughout the programme.

Career Club has changed the way most of our participants approach their career development. In our most recent round, most reported that their situation improved since starting the Career Club and that they successfully achieved the goals they had set for themselves during the programme. All participants felt that Career Club supported them in progressing in their careers.

Participants from previous rounds consistently highlight increased self-awareness and a stronger ability to reflect on themselves. Most also report gaining valuable knowledge, practical skills, and meaningful professional networks that support their ongoing professional development, alongside successfully reaching the goals they set for themselves.

We welcome guests from public, private, and third sectors to participate in our sessions. Guests get to share their knowledge and exchange thoughts with our participants – they have enjoyed connecting with highly educated, focused, and goal-oriented professionals.

Meet your new group and get to know the drill - the Career Club way of working! Build excitement for the weeks ahead and hear past experiences from our Career Club alumni while visiting our welcoming Espoo Talent Hub.

Start working on our first fundamental career development skill: self-reflection. Why are self-awareness and self-reflection important? How can you develop these skills and use them to develop your own career? That's what we will cover in this session.

In session 2, we work on the second fundamental career development skill: being able to scan and map your environment. We will focus on how to figure out your professional environment in Finland and practice this skill together. We'll talk about different kinds of networks you could build, and we will also look at how to pinpoint  your opportunities and define your potential ideal employers.

In session 3, we will cover the third fundamental career development skill which is, in our opinion, goal setting. What does it mean to set goals for your own career development? How do you actually do it and put things in motion? How do you prioritize and assess your goals? Our aim is that you are able to set smart (and S.M.A.R.T) goals for yourselves after this session.

In this session, our participants will talk about working cultures in Finland. What is culture and working culture? How can we navigate different working cultures while not erasing who we are? We will work on two-ways cultural awareness and organizational cultures, all the while avoiding clichés. We will mix concrete knowledge and information, tips, and tools with group discussions.

In this session, we will dive into all the administrative, legal and contractual aspects of workers’ rights and obligations in Finland. It may sound overwhelming at first, but once you’re clear on the rules and regulations, making relevant choices for yourself and your career will be much easier! This session has been organized in collaboration with Akava(external link, opens in a new window) for the past several rounds now and is one of our all-time favorites!

Now that you have taken time to self-reflect and understand your environment, as well as set long-term goals for yourself, you will work, together with your teammates, on generating new ideas and finding inspiration for your career development. In this session, we will give you your 4-weeks assignments, focused on network building and goal-reaching.

This interactive guest-facilitated session will help you build confidence in presenting yourselves and your ideas in professional settings. Through hands-on exercises and performance practice, you’ll learn how to structure a clear and engaging pitch, communicate your key message with impact, and manage common public speaking challenges. The aim is to gain practical tools to speak more confidently and authentically in interviews, networking, and presentations.

In this guest-facilitated session, we’ll dive into how to go beyond the surface of a job description. We'll explore how successful candidates identify information gaps, ask the right questions, and use these insights to tailor their CV and cover letter, prepare for interviews, and even plan for onboarding. By the end of the session, you’ll see job ads not as static descriptions, but as a starting point for strategic career moves.   

We will focus our day around a task- focused approach and technique, that has received 100% satisfaction rate from our previous participants.  We will work together around cover letter and interview preparation methods in the morning. In the afternoon, we will practice mock interviews with employment and industry specific experts. This has been one of the participants' favorite sessions in our past rounds!

In this final session, you will present the results of your team assignments: a career development tool or concept they’ve designed to support others on their career journeys. Each team will pitch their product to the group and our guests, and we’ll vote for the most promising idea. The winning concept will receive support from the City of Espoo for further development.

You'll see, two months go really fast! At the closing session, we'll celebrate your achievements, reflect on the past months and well, of course, have a party.

In addition to all of the above, there are assignments designed to help you get closer to the job-market, priority to register to our events, and connection with our Career Club alumni networks. You will also be a part of our community, where get access to a wide range of social and professional events and networks.
