Mobilities for EU
In the Mobilities for EU project, cities develop new mobility and transportation technology in collaboration with companies. The project tests various future solutions related to sustainable mobility. There are 29 partners from nine different EU countries involved. Espoo is one of the five replication cities in the project, creating a plan adapted to its urban environment for the implementation of the tested solutions.
Objectives
Mobilities for EU is an innovation project where companies develop and test new sustainable transportation technology. Additionally, the business potential and replication possibilities of the solutions in different urban environments are studied. The solutions tested in the project include, among others, autonomous transportation of people and goods, various charging solutions, and hydrogen as a fuel for public transport.
In addition to technical development, the project aims to support cities in sustainable transportation planning and reducing climate impacts by enhancing resident participation and collaboration with partners.
Actions
Espoo is one of the five replication cities in the project. The project is led by the cities of Madrid and Dresden. Espoo will create its own replication plan for the implementation of the tested solutions. The plan will aim to adapt the solutions to the requirements of different urban environments.
Like all project cities, Espoo will establish an Urban Transport Lab. The lab will collaborate with other cities, transport operators, educational institutions, companies, and residents. The lab will gather information on the current state and development trends of sustainable transportation and identify future needs. The Urban Transport Lab will enable the testing and demonstration of new sustainable transport services to residents and provide information on sustainable transportation. It will also collaborate with the City of Helsinki and Forum Virium’s Mobility Lab to develop transportation in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Project duration
The project runs from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028.
