Street maintenance, situation on 7 February 2024
According to the weather forecast, temperatures will remain below zero in the next few days, so roads should not be too slippery. No major snowfalls are expected, but we may see light spontaneous snowfalls, such as the one on Tuesday night. Pedestrians and cyclists should be cautious of ice hidden under a thin layer of snow.
During the cold spell, we will be able to remove snow ploughed to the sides of streets. This will make street areas wider. At the same time, we will continue to prevent slipperiness because even if temperatures stay below zero, new slippery areas may appear here and there. In very cold temperatures, the grit may not even penetrate the ice but may roll off the most frequently used street areas. For this reason, you should always be careful on the streets in wintertime.
There are currently no significant equipment or staff shortages. In the Kilo and northern Lintuvaara areas, there may be occasional delays in slipperiness prevention due to staff shortages, but since the weather is expected to remain stable, our other staff members will have time to fill in the gaps.
As the intensifying cold weather reduces the effectiveness of salt used on carriageways for slipperiness prevention, we also use grit. The frost also makes packed snow and ice harder, which makes their removal more difficult.
Pay attention to parking
One incorrectly parked vehicle can prevent street maintenance work. To make it easier to clear snow from a specific area, we occasionally put up signs that ask people to temporarily move their vehicles elsewhere.
By parking your car correctly, you will make life easier for everyone – local residents, pedestrians, drivers and maintenance workers.
Feedback on maintenance
Our customer service works closely with maintenance staff and informs them about the feedback received. Please note that sending us feedback will not speed up the ploughing of your street. All streets in Espoo are cleared in order, one area at a time, based on their pre-determined maintenance category.
We ask you to send your feedback directly through the city’s online feedback system(external link, opens in a new window). Both our feedback and telephone services are quite busy from time to time, and waiting times may be long.
If you can, also send us a photo of the site in question. Based on the photo, we will be able to assess the urgency of the situation, which will accelerate the processing of your feedback.
Trimble Feedback mobile app
You can also give location-based feedback through the Trimble Feedback mobile application(external link, opens in a new window). It is a quick way to send a message to customer service, for example concerning a need for maintenance. We go through all mobile feedback and forward it to experts who will take the necessary measures.
