Street maintenance, situation on 29 January 2025

The need for street maintenance continues, even though there have been no snowfalls recently. The mild and rainy winter is challenging in that the water and winter tyres wear down the road surface, causing damage and even potholes. We are closely monitoring changes in weather and are prepared for varying conditions throughout the winter season.

According to the weather forecast, snowfalls are not expected, but rainfalls are possible over the next few days. Strong winds may also pose a challenge to traffic. As the ground is not frozen, trees may be more prone to falling due to the wind, and kerb stones and roadside lawns are easily damaged by maintenance equipment. Any damage caused by snow ploughing will be repaired in the spring.

Less gritting and salting

The need for gritting and salting has decreased significantly due to the snowless winter. This also reduces the burden on the environment and our maintenance costs. We only salt roads when black ice may have formed on road surfaces after a frosty night.

We check and repair damage in all areas

Street maintenance is important even if there is no snow. We check and repair damage, such as cracks and potholes, that may be caused by temperature fluctuations and vehicles. We also pay particular attention to the cleaning of public areas, such as parks, squares and bus stops.
