Import and export of animals

Before you bring an animal to Finland or take one abroad, make sure you understand the requirements related to animal import and export. In the Espoo, Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi areas, matters related to the import or export of animals, such as export inspections, are handled by the City of Espoo veterinarians.

When travelling with a pet, the owner is responsible for ensuring that their pet meets the requirements of the destination country. Your pet may need specific vaccinations, medications, tests and documentation.

The Finnish Food Authority’s website provides information on travelling with animals, including import and export details. You can also contact the embassy of the destination country to enquire about export requirements.
