For schools and day care groups

Welcome to the museum with your group!

A visit to the museum supports school instruction and can be combined with many different school subjects. Museum visits are always free of charge for groups from day care, preschool and school groups, and they count as KULPS-visits. Teachers can see KAMU’s exhibitions for free in order to prepare for their class group’s visit by showing their OAJ (the Trade Union of Education) membership card at Exhibition Centre WeeGee’s ticket counter.

Advance reservations are required for group visits to the museum. It is advisable to prepare for the visit in advance by talking to the group about the exhibition – why you are going to the museum and what you will see there. Pupils are their teacher’s responsibility throughout the entire museum visit!

When you make a reservation, please give the group size, age of the children, name of the day care center / school and the contact information of the group leader. We are happy to accommodate special needs – please mention them when making a reservation!

Guided tours

Rhythm, rhymes and rock, 30 MIN

Let's sing, play music and have fun together! With guidance, we will explore how music is created through singing games, and finally climb onto the stage to rock out together. Guided tour held at KAMU's exhibition Feel the Noise, which tells the story of popular music and youth culture in Espoo in the 1970s and 1980s.

Recommended for: Early childhood education, preschoolers, 1st grade

Let's make some noise together! 45 min

We will take a guided tour of the exhibition: Feel the Noise - Rock and Youth Culture in Espoo. In the 1970s and 1980s, Espoo was full of music, vibes, and community spirit. The exhibition presents youth culture from the 1970s onwards, musicians from Espoo, and the onset of rock fever. During the guided tour, we will get to try out how to make noise together.

Recommended for: Elementary school (grades 2–6)

Build a suburb workshop, 90 min

What makes a good place to live? In the workshop, the pupils/students familiarise themselves with city planning and create new suburbs in Espoo. While planning suburbs, they also learn about the urbanisation of Espoo, the history of modern Espoo and the social ideals of good living in different time periods. Primary school (5th–6th grade), lower secondary school (7th–9th grade), upper secondary level.

Music and youth in Espoo, 60 min

What was it like to be young in the suburbs teeming with teenagers? What music did people listen to and what clothes did they wear when youth culture was just emerging? What was happening in Finland and Espoo 50 years ago? This interactive school tour uses games and storytelling to introduce to us what Espoo’s noisy and exciting youth culture was like in the 1970s. Recommended for ages 10 and up.

Borrow teaching packages

What were ancient fishing nets made of? What games were played during the Middle Ages? Where did people get their food in earlier times? Answers to these and many other questions can be found in the museum’s educational packages covering different historical periods.

In addition to objects that can be touched and tried out, the kits include information about each period and offer ideas and models for hands-on learning. The educational kits are designed to support comprehensive school teaching, but they can also be used in other educational settings. The written materials in the packages are currently only available in Finnish, but the packages can also be used without the written materials.

The loan period is 1–3 weeks, as agreed. Borrowing is free of charge for schools and daycare centres in Espoo. For other institutions, the loan fee is €70 per loan period.

The packages can be collected from KAMU at Exhibition Centre WeeGee (Tapiola) during the museum’s opening hours.

The Medieval times in Espoo -package is a comprehensive resource on the Middle Ages. In addition to an extensive collection of objects, the kit provides tips and ideas for hands-on learning. Topics covered include housing, everyday life in the Middle Ages, clothing, food, trade, games, and pastimes. Each theme includes activities, objects, or various materials that students can touch, examine, and experiment with. Recommended for comprehensive schools and upper secondary schools.

The Salon package introduces users to the history and social customs of the 19th century. How did people dress, travel, behave, and spend their leisure time? The package includes objects, clothing, and accessories that can be tried on and explored. The kit also contains a documentary film about the life of Aurora Karamzin, as well as an instruction binder with information about the 19th century and guidelines for using and handling the objects. Each thematic section includes assignments, exercises, or craft instructions to support active learning. Recommended for comprehensive schools and upper secondary schools.
