Resident of Finnoo

Finnoo is being built as a maritime district with good traffic connections to Helsinki and other parts of Espoo. The metro will run to Finnoo in 2023. It is also easy to get around Finnoo by bike or on foot.

The construction works for the surroundings of Finnoo metro station will begin when the site plan for the area is finalised, estimated in 2023.

The future town plan will include an obligation to take care of the protection zone that separates the residential construction area from Finnoo’s valuable wetland.

Finnoo’s main streets are already in use and will be widened. More streets and a park area are currently being built in the area.

In the master plan for the area, space has been reserved for two schools and several day-care centres. Playgrounds and parks for residents are also being built in the area.

Espoo will build two squares in the vicinity of the Finnoo metro station. The construction of the squares can begin once the surrounding buildings are completed.

The restoration of contaminated soil is implemented in Finnoo centre.

Finnoo has a large marina. The area of the marina will change with future town planning.

The aim is to submit the component master plan for Finnoonsatama to decision-makers in 2025.

In time, Finnoo will be home to about 17,000 residents. The majority of the city district will be completed in the 2030s.

Finnoo and Suomenoja refer to the same area. Both of them are based on the Swedish name Finno. Of the Finnish names, Finnoo is older: it has been used at least since the 19th century. In the 1960s, the name Suomenoja was introduced. At the beginning of the 2000s, the City of Espoo stated that the name Finnoo would be reintroduced in official names.
