Background information
The new look of Leppävaara centre has been planned in several stages. The amendment to the detailed plan for the entire centre area was prepared in 2014–2021. However, the city’s Business and Competitiveness Subcommittee decided to lapse the planning reservations for the northern side of the railway track on 31 May 2021. The decision urged the city to find an alternative solution through a concept competition.
A new plan was sought with the help of an idea competition in 2022–2024. The winner of the international competition was the Walk Around proposal, which came from the construction company YIT, ARCO Architecture Company and Ramboll, a planning and consultancy company. Read more on the idea competition website.
The currently ongoing planning work for Leppävaaransilta bridge is based on the Walk Around proposal. During the planning work, the plan will be enhanced together with residents and other actors in the area.
