In the middle of the picture is Espoo Cathedral in the background. In the foreground is Espoonjoki River and the paved lounge area by it, as well as the stairs leading to the lounge area. The photo was taken in spring, when the trees were just starting to turn slightly green.

Kirkkosillanpuisto offers a green oasis in the middle of the urban environment of the Espoon keskus area. The park is located near Espoo’s medieval stone church, and it is part of the nationally significant built cultural environment and the regionally valuable Espoonjoki cultural environment. The park also houses Espoo’s first primary school, Lagstad Folkskola, from 1873.

The Espoonjoki River branch, which extends from the sea to Vantaa, forms a regionally important ecological connection. It offers an uninterrupted recreational and outdoor route to the river valley landscapes. Kirkkosillanpuisto is part of this whole.

In 2024, a new playground was built next to the san field by the river. The break area next to the school was renovated with the addition of a games arena, for example.

From the path called Keskilaiva, a rose garden opens up into the park as well as a pergola with vines leading to the church. The sunny and peaceful green space amidst the planted vegetation is perfect for a summer picnic. On the park path leading from the train station to the church, there is a five-part art piece by Pekka Kauhanen executed on lamp posts. The title of the piece is Ilmestys (Revelation). Two parts of the work are still to be relocated as the construction on the Virastopiha detailed plan area and the Espoo House building are about to begin.
