Kallvik Waterfront Walkway park plan

ParksKauklahti

The Espoo Public Works Department will be drafting a park plan to serve the waterfront walkway for the following areas: southwestern section of Kallvikinniitty, Kallvikinlahti and Kallvikinranta.

The plan will include sections of waterfront walkway, along with connecting walkways (e.g. Kallvikinpolku, sothern section of Kallvikinreitti as well as a walkway called Kallvikinranta). The plan will also include functional destinations on the waterfront walkway, handling of the green environment as well as the species of organisms and ecological connections to be considered.

A viewing platform has been proposed for Kallvikinlahti, along with an unlit nature trail leading up to it. The area might also have a nature-themed information board. Other functional destinations are the recreational space located in the Kallvikinranta area and the outdoor gym equipment planned for higher ground a little further away from the shoreline. A small sandy beach with an adjacent pier have also been proposed for public recreational use. The condition of the pier will be examined later on.

Benches and rubbish bins will be installed in the area.

Kallvikinniitty will remain primarily open in nature, but small groups of ornamental trees, in keeping with the area’s history and character, have been proposed along Kallvikinreitti.

The most important species of animals and organisms in the area to be taken into account are the Macroplea pubipennis leaf beetle, whose protected area is limited by Kallvikinlahti, as well as the Siberian flying squirrel and the bat with their respective areas of movement. A local connection with the help of additional trees has been proposed for the Siberian flying squirrel.

The Waterfront Walkway and the connecting walkways will be illuminated (with the exception of the nature trail). The lighting will be designed in more detail later on.
