Improving the Nauriskaskenoja ditch and constructing stormwater basins

ParksEspoonlahti

The City of Espoo has started preparing park plans for the Nauriskaski stormwater basins. The project is related to the wider issue of preventing flooding problems in Nauriskaski as land use in the area becomes denser. The work focuses on finding natural stormwater retention solutions to slow down the stormwater flows in the area. Two stormwater retention basins are being proposed for the park areas pursuant to the current plan. Nauriskaskenoja is located in the Tillinmäki area of Espoo in the Saunalahti city district. The catchment area of Nauriskaskenoja extends to Harmaakallio and Latokaski in the north and to Kattilalaakso in the south. The watershed is on the western side of Nöykkiönkatu, which means that from the eastern side of the street, water flows eastwards and no longer ends up in Nauriskaskenoja. The catchment area of Nauriskaskenoja is 124 hectares. The surroundings of Nauriskaskenoja are largely built-up residential areas. More residential construction has been planned on the northeastern side of Nauriskaskenoja. There is a lot of natural forest area in the north and northwest. The expansive and wild Harmaakallio nature reserve is also located in the northwest. The Tillinmäki residential area near Nauriskaskenoja in the Saunalahti district of Espoo has suffered from flood problems.
