The Hösmärin päiväkoti day care centre will move permanently to the premises of Hösmärinpuiston päiväkoti at Hösmärinahde 5 in early 2027. Hösmärin päiväkoti will continue to operate as a separate unit, simply sharing the premises with the other day care centre.
The conversion of the old Hösmärinpuisto school premises into a day care centre will be completed during the summer of 2026. The renovation project will turn the building into a 12-group day care centre. The premises have been fully renovated, ensuring that they are healthy and safe for early childhood education activities.
The City of Espoo’s original plan was to replace the existing building (day care centre and outbuilding) with a new day care facility with eight groups. Construction work was scheduled to start in the summer of 2026. The project has now been cancelled.
The city has reviewed its construction projects across Espoo as part of its budget-balancing programme. For cost‑saving reasons, the construction of a new day care centre in the Hösmäri area is one of the city’s investment projects that has to be abandoned. Furthermore, according to population forecasts, the number of children needing a place in early childhood education in the southern part of Espoon keskus is not expected to increase significantly in the near future. In the coming years, there will be no need to increase the number of early childhood education places in the area. In other words, the need for day care places has changed since the project was first launched.
By relocating Hösmärin päiväkoti to the same building as Hösmärinpuiston päiväkoti, the city will ensure a healthy and modern early childhood education environment for both children and staff. The day care centres are located close to each other, with a distance of only 200 metres, so the children will stay in the same familiar area. The Hösmärin päiväkoti staff and six groups of children will all move to the Hösmärinpuisto premises at the same time. The continuity of employment relationships will also be ensured for the staff during the transition.
Further information about the move and other arrangements will be provided later as details are confirmed during the spring.
