Construction of streets in Karakallio

On a 200-metre-long section of Karakalliontie, located east of the intersection of Kotkatie, and on the southern part of Kotkatie will be built a wastewater sewer, a water line and a stormwater sewer. The water supply to be built will replace the lines located in the area of block 57007 which will become unusable due to the future construction of the block. Old surface structures will only be demolished on Karakalliontie and Kotkatitie to the extent required for the work on the streets. The surface structures of these streets will be replaced later in another contract. The work on Karakalliontie around the market square area will be completed during winter 2024, and the work in the area around the Kotkatie intersection and in the Kotkatie section will be completed by the end of summer 2024.

A wastewater sewer, water line and stormwater sewer will be built for Suohaukantie, Varpushaukankuja, Hiirihaukankuja and the southern part of Suohaukankuja. Additionally, casing pipes for electric, telecommunication and lighting cables will be installed for these streets. At the same time, the structural street layers will be replaced.

All existing kerbstones, asphalt, concrete, and natural stone paving structures on Suohaukantie and the streets connected to it will be dismantled. The vegetation to be retained will be protected. The lampposts in the contract area will be removed for the duration of the street construction work and installed back on new bases once the work is completed. In vegetation areas where there is no need to mould the ground, unnecessary mechanical movement will be avoided in order to prevent soil compaction, and natural vegetation will be preserved as much as possible.

The contract includes excavation in order to build new pipelines. On Hiirihaukankuja, the old wastewater pumping station will be demolished and a new pumping station will be installed near the intersection of Suohaukantie and Hiirihaukankuja. The streets will be asphalted, kerbs will be installed, and roadside areas will be finished by sowing grass there.
