Construction of Gräsanlaaksonkuja and the Gräsanlaakso intersection area

Streets and trafficMatinkylä

The object of the contract is the construction of the Gräsanlaaksonkuja, Gräsanlaakso and Matinpuronpolku streets. In addition, the intersections of the walkways in the neighbouring Matinpuronpuisto Park will be built. A new fire station will be built on the site on the north side of Gräsanlaaksonkuja, which is why the street area is being renovated. The worksite is located in the area between Hauenkalliontie and Ring II in Matinkylä.

Project description

The construction project involves the construction of the Gräsanlaaksonkuja, Gräsanlaakso, Matinpuronpolku streets and the intersections of the three walkways in Matinpuronpuisto Park. It consists of rebuilding existing streets. The contract is related to the construction of the new Matinkylä fire station, which will be located next to the intersection of Gräsanlaakso and Gräsanlaaksonkuja (formerly Matinpuronpolku).

A plot access will be opened for the fire station’s emergency vehicles to Gräsanlaakso, approx. 30 metres north of the intersection of Gräsanlaaksonkuja. Fire station traffic lights will be installed at the new plot access. A bus stop will be built in a new location on Gräsanlaakso, and the pedestrian and bicycle route will be rebuilt. The pedestrian crossing across Gräsanlaakso will be moved to the south side of the intersection. There will be additions to the traffic lights in the intersection area.

Gräsanlaaksonkuja will continue to provide access to the adjacent parking area and Matinkylä recycling point. In addition, a plot connection will be built from the street to the fire station. The structural layers of the street will be rebuilt, and lighting and stormwater drainage will be built on the street. Rainwater and meltwater are led away through the storm drains. There will be a separate pavement and bicycle lane next to the roadway. The total width of the pedestrian and bicycle route is 6 metres in order to prepare for the high-quality cycling route to be built in the area later. The street area will be finished by planting. The site will be planted with urban trees and shrubs and sown with meadow plants.
