A substantial amount of recruitment subsidy for young people available in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area

The recruitment subsidy for young people is suitable for hiring a young person who has recently graduated, for example.

The availability of the recruitment subsidy for young people is still good in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area because employers have not taken advantage of the subsidy as much as expected. Employers should find out whether they can get the subsidy well in advance, as the subsidy model will end in summer 2027.

So far, the recruitment subsidy for young people has been granted for a total of approximately one hundred employment relationships in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. A significant part of the appropriations has still not been used.

“Employers have taken advantage of the subsidy less than expected. Even though the economy is turning around, many employers are still cautious about recruitments,” says Olga Silfver, Client Relations Manager at the City of Espoo.

The recruitment subsidy for young people responds to this specific situation by lowering the recruitment threshold for employers.

The subsidy is suitable for many types of recruitment

The recruitment subsidy for young people is a fixed-term, state-funded subsidy for hiring an unemployed young person under the age of 30. The employer may receive a subsidy of 50 per cent of the payroll costs, however, no more than EUR 1,500 per month and for a maximum of six months. The maximum amount of the subsidy is EUR 9,000 per employment relationship. The subsidy may be granted for several recruitments by the same employer.

The subsidy may be used in a wide range of recruitments. It may be granted for an employment relationship lasting for a minimum of three months. The employment relationship may be part-time or full-time and fixed-term or permanent.

The subsidy is well suited, for example, for hiring a young person who has recently graduated, and the young person must have registered as an unemployed job seeker.

Employer, this is how to get started

If you know a person you would like to hire, contact the employment services of this person’s municipality of residence well in advance of the recruitment decision. The recruitment subsidy for young people is available until the end of June 2027.

If you do not yet know a suitable employee, the employment services will help you find professionals who are suitable for your needs.
