Nöykkiö Library celebrates its 40th anniversary
Nöykkiö Library, opened in February 1986, has served customers for four decades and has become an important part of everyday life for the residents of Nöykkiö and Latokaski.
Nöykkiö Library opened on 20 February 1986 on Oxfotintie, as part of the Nöykkiö school complex, which also includes a day care centre, a primary school and a lower secondary school. The library is located in the same building as Nöykkiö’s cosy youth centre.
Before the library opened, library services in the area were provided by a mobile library. The new library gave residents access to a collection of 20,000 books, more than 90 newspapers and magazines, and a selection of language course and music cassettes. Over the years, the centrally located library has become an integral part of everyday life in the area and an important learning environment for schoolchildren.
Today, Nöykkiö Library, along with the entire Espoo City Library, is part of the Helmet library network. The library organises a variety of events for all ages. As a self-service library, it also serves customers outside staffed service hours.
The library will celebrate its anniversary with a special event in October. The event is open to everyone and will include music, activities for children, and memories and photographs from the library’s history.
Memories and stories of Nöykkiö Library
To mark the library’s anniversary year, we want to look back on past decades and people’s library memories.
You can share your own memory or story about Nöykkiö Library either in person at the library or by sending an email to noykkion.kirjasto@espoo.fi. The library would also be delighted to receive any photographs that capture its history over the years.
The memories will be featured at the library’s anniversary celebration.
