First temporary traffic arrangements on Länsiväylä in Espoo
Construction works for the Ring Road I Keilaniemi and Länsiväylä Bridges project begin this week. The first temporary traffic arrangements will impact bus traffic on Länsiväylä at Keilaniemi. Buses en route from Helsinki to Kirkkonummi will see a lane change at the Keilaniemi interchange. The Karhusaarensolmu bus stops will also be relocated roughly 150 metres in the Kirkkonummi direction.
These changes will be put into practice on 28 October 2026. They have to do with the construction of the new Keilaniemi underpass. A new pedestrian and cycling route, along with the underpass, will be built next to the existing bus ramp, and the ramp area will be used as a construction site. The speed limit on the bus lane has already been reduced to 50 km/h.
Construction work will not impact other vehicle traffic at this time. Current pedestrian and cycling routes will remain available.
Larger changes can be expected in late November, when the temporary traffic arrangements related to the Tapiolansilta construction will be put in place. There will be a detour for vehicle traffic en route from Helsinki and Tapiolantie to Westend. Länsiväylä will remain open for traffic in both directions throughout the project.
“Construction is now becoming more visible in the Keilaniemi area and on Länsiväylä. The first temporary traffic arrangements are relatively minor, but the bridge works for Tapiolansilta, which begin in late November, will have a notably larger impact. We will let you know about them later. If you want updates on the project and current traffic arrangements, keep up with the project website and newsletter,” says Jarmo Nirhamo, Project Manager at the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
