Cleaning services to be reduced in Espoo schools to balance city budget
Cleaning services in Espoo’s primary, lower secondary and general upper secondary schools will be reduced from the beginning of 2027. This will affect both daily cleaning work and less frequent cleaning tasks. The aim of the changes is to achieve cost savings in cleaning services.
The frequency of classroom cleaning in Espoo’s schools will be reduced, and starting next year, classrooms will be cleaned every other weekday. The change will not apply to common areas, toilets, home economics and art rooms, technical crafts rooms, or teaching facilities for those needing special support. These rooms will continue to be cleaned every weekday.
Reductions in less frequent cleaning tasks will affect almost all premises used by the City of Espoo. For example, windows will be cleaned every other year.
The Premises Department actively monitors cleaning standards and cooperates with building users to ensure that the changes have as little impact on daily activities as possible.
