What kind of Espoo would enable you to live your best life? Together, let’s make this a city that offers even more meaningful opportunities!

What would it be like in your dream city that would inspire you to work on joint issues, where it would be easy to get to know your neighbours and where no one would have to feel their life lacks meaning? Help us update the participation programme and let’s make this dream a reality!

A city that meets your needs

What are the building blocks that make your daily life in Espoo meaningful? Which services, structures or places inspire you? What would you like to do more of in Espoo? What has prevented you from participating in activities organised by the city? In which situations have you felt able to influence the city?

The city is here for you – truly. We provide all our services to support your well-being. But to make sure they work optimally, we need to hear from you about your well-being needs from time to time.

We have one fairly strong assumption: One of our best ways to create well-being involves making sure this is a city that offers opportunities for an active life, making a difference and doing things together.

With this basis, we aim to create neighbours where it is easy for people to meet. To encounter our customers in a way that leaves them feeling reassured. To offer services that provide everyone with something enjoyable to do. To provide them with opportunities to realise their own projects and ideas.

But what does all this look like in practice? This is something we must hear from you to make sure the result actually works! Or if you disagree with the whole premise, we should know about that too.

Join the discussion

Help us create a city where you and everyone else can fulfil your potential!

It is easy to do your part: We are asking residents for opinions on the Voxit platform from 28 August to 31 October 2026. Voxit is an anonymous discussion platform where users vote on different statements. The platform will display you a set of statements, and you can either agree or disagree with them, or skip them. You can also add your own statements to the platform until the halfway point of the discussion, after which you can still vote on other users’ statements.

You can participate in any language, as the platform’s translation feature allows others to see the added statements in their own language. You can respond to as many statements as you like. Your responses are saved automatically after each statement.

For example, what do you think of the following statements?

“I would like to know more people who live close to me”

“I prefer to participate and have my say online”

“I have not participated in urban development because I feel that my involvement will make no difference”

“I would like to see more urban culture in my neighbourhood”

“The city should give more support to residents’ independent activities”

It is important to us that your views are heard in the discussion. We want to be here for you, and no one else thinks exactly like you. Also ask other people in your life to respond – the city must be equally good for everyone!

We are, of course, particularly interested in your ideas and feedback on how the city contributes to your well-being. So when responding, think about the opportunities to do things together with others in your neighbourhood and your encounters with other Espoo residents and the city employees. For example, they can occur on your home street or in a nearby park, at the city's sports facilities, libraries, youth facilities, on the city's website or at events organised by the city. Please note that this discussion does not include health services or the wellbeing services county.

From the participation programme to practice

This is the best time to share your opinion, as we are currently updating the city’s participation programme. There is no point doing that without your input. The participation programme defines the entire city organisation’s shared commitment and the means to promote participation and inclusion comprehensively.

Participation and inclusion mean all those things that we consider to produce well-being. They are related to finding meaning in your life and yourself. They are related to a sense of community and active agency in your life and environment. The opposite of participation and inclusion is exclusion and marginalisation.

We aim to update the participation programme by early 2027 based on your views. The programme guides each of the city’s profit units to identify and create opportunities for better experiences of participation and inclusion.

So by sharing your opinions, you can help add a concrete measure to the city's important roadmap and contribute to improving the everyday lives of thousands of Espoo residents. Your input matters.
