Laaksolahti Library will open in temporary premises on Monday 7 September. The library will operate from Laaksolahti House and serve customers on weekday evenings.

The temporary premises for Laaksolahti Library are almost ready, and the library will open to customers on Monday 7 September. The library is located in Laaksolahti House at Ylänkötie 16. The entrance is on the inner courtyard side of the building, at the end facing Laaksolahdentie. The door is marked with the Helmet Library logo.

The library will operate in these temporary premises during the construction of the new Jupperi multipurpose building. The new Laaksolahti Library is expected to open in the multipurpose building in early 2029.

Opening hours of the temporary library

  • Monday to Friday: 5 pm to 8 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed

The opening hours are more limited than before because Laaksolahti House is used as a school during the day. The library will not offer self-service access outside staffed opening hours.

Services available at the temporary library

The temporary library is considerably smaller than the previous library, so it will not be able to provide all the same services. However, customers can:

  • Borrow and return library materials
  • Collect reservations
  • Use a public computer and wireless internet
  • Print and photocopy documents

The library has a small collection focusing on children’s books, magazines and Bestseller books.

There is no dedicated customer parking space for library customers. However, a limited number of parking spaces are available near Laaksolahti House, and there is also an accessible parking space next to the building.

The entrance is on the inner courtyard side of the building, at the end facing Laaksolahdentie. The door bears the orange Helmet Library symbol. Access to the entrance is available both by stairs and by a ramp.

A new library is being built for Laaksolahti

The current Laaksolahti library building and Jupperi School will be demolished to make way for a new multipurpose building. According to the current timetable, the new Jupperi multipurpose building will be completed in early 2029.

In the future, Laaksolahti Library will operate from the new multipurpose building. Once the new library has been completed, library services will return to a level comparable to those available in the old library.

More information about the construction project is available on the YIT project website (in Finnish)(external link, opens in a new window).
