Espoo medal recipients 2026

The Espoo medal has been awarded to 11 people in recognition of their work for the benefit of the City of Espoo. The medals will be presented as part of the Espoo Day reception for invited guests on Thursday, 27 August.
The recipients of the Espoo medal are:
- City Councillor Kaisa Alaviiri
- City Councillor Nina af Hällström
- City Secretary Riitta-Liisa Kammonen
- Director of the April Jazz Festival and Executive Director of Espoo Big Band ry Matti Lappalainen
- Managing Director of Premises Department, Public Utility Maija Lehtinen
- Theatre Manager at Kino Tapiola Hannele Marjavaara
- Founders of IQM Quantum Computers Mikko Möttönen, Juha Vartiainen and Jan Goetz
- Captain of the Kiekko-Espoo Women’s Team 2025–2026 Reetta Valkjärvi
- School Grandfather at Aarnivalkea School Ismo Ylinen
The Espoo medal, designed by medal artist Kauko Räsänen, has been awarded to more than 500 people since 1972 in recognition of their work for the benefit of the city. The recipients are chosen by the medal committee of the City of Espoo.
