Pentala Archipelago Museum reopens for the summer season and Midsummer
KAMU Espoo City Museum's Pentala Archipelago Museum will open its doors to the public on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, at the same time as the archipelago ferry traffic in Espoo begins operating. This popular excursion destination will now, for the first time, also be open during Midsummer for everyone wishing to enjoy seaside Espoo. Visitors arriving by private boat may also moor at the museum’s pier during their visit.
The archipelago museum offers a complete experience combining a sea journey, cultural landscape, and the unique nature of Pentala Island. A nature trail begins at the museum area and leads to the scenic Pentala Lake and Diksand beach. Visitors may bring their own picnic or enjoy treats served at the museum café.
The museum’s Gurli House is a home museum where time has been frozen in the final summer of fisherman’s widow Gurli Nyholm in 1986. The reed-roofed boathouse features an exhibition about year-round fishing life. Visitors can also step inside one of Espoo’s oldest residential buildings, a fisherman’s cottage built in the late 18th century, and admire through its window the same seascape once enjoyed by Pentala’s summer residents.
Throughout the summer, the archipelago museum offers a variety of programmes and guided tours. The museum is open from 2 June to 30 August 2026, Tuesday through Sunday.
