Laaksolahti Library to Move to Temporary Premises in Summer 2026
The current Laaksolahti Library building will be demolished, and the library will move to temporary premises in summer 2026. The new library will open in the Jupperi multipurpose building in early 2029.
Jupperi School and the Laaksolahti Library operating in the same building will be demolished to make way for a new multipurpose building. The current library will be open for the last time on Thursday 18 June 2026.
There will be a break in library services in the area during the summer. From 19 June 2026, there will be no library services in the Laaksolahti area until the temporary library opens in August–September.
The temporary library space will be significantly smaller than the current library, and not all services can be provided as before. Once the new library is completed, services will return to a level similar to the current one. You can read more about the temporary library below.
Temporary Library in Laaksolahti House
During the construction period, Laaksolahti Library will operate in temporary premises at Laaksolahti House (Ylänkötie 16). The exact opening date of the temporary library will be confirmed later and announced separately.
Opening hours of the temporary library
- Monday–Friday: 5.00–8.00 pm
- Saturday–Sunday: Closed
Opening hours are more limited than before, as Laaksolahti House is used as a school during the day. The library will not offer self-service hours.
The temporary library is smaller than the current one, and not all services are available. However, customers can:
- borrow and return items
- pick up reservations
- use a public computer
- print and copy
The collection will be small, with a focus on children’s books and magazines.
Remember to Update Your Reservations for the Summer
From 19 June 2026, it will not be possible to borrow, return or collect reservations in the Laaksolahti area before the temporary library opens.
If you have reservations to be collected from Laaksolahti Library during the summer, we recommend that you:
- change the pick-up location to another library, or
- freeze your reservations for the summer.
You can change the pick-up location or freeze a reservation in the Helmet online library, as long as the item is not already on its way to you. Please see the instructions in the Helmet online library(external link, opens in a new window).
Library staff are happy to help at the library or via the Helmet online library chat.
If your turn for a reservation falls during the summer and Laaksolahti Library is selected as the pick-up location, the reservation will wait until the temporary library opens. This may extend the waiting time for you and other customers.
Once the temporary library has opened, you can change the pick-up location back to Laaksolahti Library if you wish.
New Library to Open in 2029
The new Laaksolahti Library will be located in the Jupperi community centre, which will also include a school. The community centre is expected to be completed in early 2029.
