The Cycling Week is here again

The national Cycling Week takes place again from 8 to 17 May 2026. This year's theme is Cycling and art. The theme highlights the experiential side of cycling and brings out its connections to culture. As in previous years, Espoo will organise various events during the Cycling Week.
Cycling is a smooth and environmentally friendly way to travel for people of all ages. It also supports the city’s goal of carbon neutrality and promotes climate-wise choices in everyday life. Cycling increases wellbeing and produces health benefits. Espoo’s network of cycling routes will expand and make mobility smooth and exciting.
Espoo celebrates a new mountain bike trail in Oittaa and city biking in Otaniemi
In Espoo, the events of the Cycling Week focus especially on the Otaniemi and Oittaa areas. The Cycling Week events in Otaniemi are part of the sustainable mobility theme month entitled Otaniemi kestävällä tiellä (Otaniemi on a sustainable path), which will be celebrated throughout May.
The Cycling Week will have a head start in Otaniemi on 6 and 7 May, when free bike maintenance assistance will be organised for students. The aim is to lower the threshold for bike maintenance and safe use of bikes. On Friday 8 May, the city bike day will bring personal guidance to Otaniemi city bike stations. On Tuesday 12 May, an artistic bicycle customisation workshop, the Finnish Road Safety Council’s rule quiz and bike maintenance training will be organised in Otaniemi.
In the Oittaa recreation area, the opening ceremony of a new mountain bike route will be organised on Saturday 9 May between 10.00 and 14.00. At the event, the whole family can learn about the many ways of engaging in cycling as a hobby. Espoo-based cycling club IK-32 organises a mountain bike course for young people aged 10–13. It is possible to test the new route on beginner-friendly tours guided by the HEKUMA MTB society. There is also a fun bike track for the little ones of the family in the garden area. Tunturi will bring different kinds of new bikes for test riding, and guidance in different cycle sports such as cyclocross, mountain bike orienteering and roller skiing will also be available.
