KAMU’s museum renewal progresses at the WeeGee Exhibition Centre in Espoo

The renewal of KAMU Espoo City Museum, is progressing at the WeeGee Exhibition Centre. The first phase of renovation has been completed, and the museum will reopen to the public on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The exhibition Feel the Noise - Rock and Youth Culture in Espoo returns after the renovation break with even greater energy. On Friday, April 17, during the opening week, the first K-18 KAMU Club will take place, featuring the Espoo-based band The Potatoes. Visitors can expect unbeatable instrumental rock in the midst of the unique exhibition setting.
KAMU is renewing its museum spaces and exhibitions at WeeGee in phases between 2025 and 2027. As part of the renewal, the exhibition and public space will increase by one and a half times. The renovated area extends to the building’s window wall, bringing more openness and natural light to KAMU’s exhibitions. A separate group space has also been created for workshops, lectures, and other gatherings.
The renewal of exhibition and public spaces will continue into the next phase, during which a permanent exhibition about Espoo and its residents will be created in the new area. Additionally, a section will be developed where visitors can independently explore various materials related to Espoo’s history, such as maps, photographs, archaeological finds, and newspapers.
The new exhibitions will open in spring 2027. The goal of the renewed KAMU WeeGee is to strengthen the sense of belonging to the city and community.
“Once reopened, the renewed KAMU WeeGee will serve visitors even better. Accessibility is a key principle of the renewal, and different visitor groups have been taken into account more thoroughly than before. Exhibition content created together with residents reflects the diversity of Espoo,” says Marjo Poutanen, who started as KAMU’s museum director in February.
