At a meeting on 22 April 2026, the Espoo City Planning Committee decided to return the proposal for the Espoo Master Plan 2060 to the preparation. The decision-makers identified certain matters that call for revisions to the plan proposal before it can be presented to the committee for reconsideration. The aim is to keep to the overall schedule, so the plan should be ready for consideration for approval in 2027.

The Espoo Master Plan 2060 is a general plan for the land use of the entire city, which the city uses to anticipate and prepare for future developments and changes in a controlled and systematic manner in accordance with the Espoo Story. The planning work is now at the proposal stage. The City Planning Committee discussed the plan proposal at three meetings during the spring, the first being on 25 March 2026.

The City Planning Committee returned the plan proposal to the preparation with clear guidelines on further preparation. The plan proposal will now be revised, and the impacts of the changes will be assessed. The aim is to have a revised plan proposal submitted for the committee’s consideration as soon as possible.

When the City Planning Committee decides that the revised master plan proposal will advance to the next stage of the process, it will be submitted for consideration by the City Board, which also decides when the plan proposal will receive a public review. In connection with the public review, the City Planning Department will hold events for residents and other stakeholders to examine and discuss the plans. The aim is that the master plan will be approved after this in 2027.
