Espoonlahti health centre renovation receives Espoo’s Hurraa! construction award
Espoo’s Environment and Building Control Committee and Building Control Unit have granted their annual award to a particularly commendable and successful project related to the built environment. The 2025 Hurraa! award goes to the renovation of the Espoonlahti health centre.
In its selection, the Environment and Building Control Committee wanted to emphasise renovation over new construction.
”The health centre is at once practical, pleasant and visually impressive. Energy efficiency and the city’s carbon neutrality goal were also factored into the renovation,” explains Maria Saita (Greens), Chairperson of the Environment and Building Control Committee, outlining the reasons for the award.
The principal designer of the Espoonlahti health centre renovation was Markus Kuusela from Arkkitehtiryhmä Reino Koivula Oy. The contractor was Jatke Toimitilat Oy, the developer was Kiinteistö Oy Espoon Sotekiinteistöt, and the construction management consultant was the City of Espoo’s Premises Department.
Honourable mentions for promoting sustainable development and exceptionally high-quality construction
This year, two projects received an honourable mention: the EriCa Green Chemistry Park research and office building and the Hepokorpi substation.
In the case of the EriCa Green Chemistry Park, located in Finnoo, the committee highlighted the building’s pioneering role in green chemistry and sustainable development. At the same time, the committee wants to support entrepreneurship in Espoo. The committee also found the building’s silhouette to be striking and varied. The principal designer of the project was Juha Mäki-Jyllilä from JKMM Arkkitehdit Oy. The contractor was Haahtela Oy, and the developer was JV Konsortio.
Regarding the Hepokorpi substation, the committee emphasised that exceptional attention has been paid to the quality of design and construction of both the buildings and the landscape towers.
