The city enhances its cooperation with Kiviruukki landowners and operators through discussion forums

In June, the City of Espoo invited Kiviruukki landowners and operators to its annual Kiviruukki forum. The event provided the latest information about Kiviruukki and included a workshop where participants discussed land use planning and development in the area.
Latest information on Kiviruukki’s development
At the Kiviruukki forum on 9 June 2025, representatives of various city units gave presentations on the handbook on the development of Kiviruukki, the district plan process, and the development commitment. During the workshop segment, participants discussed land use planning and the development priorities in Kiviruukki. The event was now held for the second time in this format, and it has established itself as a development, networking and discussion platform for the city and local operators. The next Kiviruukki forum is planned for spring 2026.
New and expanding facilities boost Kiviruukki’s recognition as a circular economy hub
In the Kiviruukki vision, the circular economy is the cornerstone of research, activities and construction. The area is already home to major circular economy companies and operators, including the currently expanding VTT Bioruukki, the largest research and pilot centre for green transition solutions in Europe. On the adjacent plot, NCC Property Development Oy is building the Cleantech Garden central block providing premises for clean technology companies as well as a general upper secondary school, Omnia and VTT.
City-level sustainability work and local cooperation enable sustainable growth
The city’s flagship project in local development, Circular Economy Hub in Kiviruukki, focuses in particular on boosting cooperation between the city and Kiviruukki landowners and developing suitable conditions for a sustainable food system and the circular economy of textiles and plastics. At Kiviruukki forums, discussions also cover other themes linked to the Espoo Story and the project, such as sustainable transport and renewable energy.
The development of Kiviruukki is part of regional cooperation with the Helsinki-Uusimaa Circular Hub(external link, opens in a new window). Espoo’s goal is to foster cooperation in order to strengthen Finland’s position as a world-class hub for clean technology expertise, making it an attractive investment opportunity for both domestic and international players.
