Children decide how to encourage reading in libraries

This winter, the library's Toimintatonni initiative is giving power to children in grades 1-6 in primary school. What would encourage them to read in libraries? We collected ideas from children in December, and now they get to vote and choose what will be implemented in libraries.
Espoo City Library's Toimintatonni 2026 initiative has progressed to the second stage. In December 2025, we asked children in grades 1-6 in primary school to propose activities or acquisitions in the library that would encourage them to read. Now the children get to vote on which ideas will be implemented in spring 2026.
The Toimintatonni initiative at Espoo City Library gives children and young people the opportunity to decide what kind of events or purchases should be made in Entresse, Iso Omena, Lippulaiva, Sello and Tapiola libraries. Each library has a budget of €1,000. The theme of Toimintatonni in 2026 is encouraging reading.
1st–6th graders, vote for your favorite ideas in February
Elementary school students can now vote on previously collected ideas and choose which ones will be implemented. Voting will take place on the Padlet platform, where ideas for each library have been collected on their own wall. On Padlet, you can comment on ideas and vote by liking them. Commenting and voting are anonymous. Comments will be visible after approval by staff.
