The popularity of Glims Farmstead Museum continued to grow among the museums of KAMU Espoo City Museum
The museums of KAMU Espoo City Museum had a record number of visitors. In 2025, nearly 166,000 people visited the museums.
Of the five museum sites, Glims Farmstead Museum was visited the most. The museum is open year-round, and especially in summer the 4H petting farm, as well as the atmospheric old-fashioned Christmas weekends, are very popular.
Throughout the year, KAMU continued to develop its content in collaboration with local residents. An important part of KAMU’s participation work is also the preparation of the new Espoo exhibition at KAMU WeeGee, which will open in early 2027.
At the WeeGee Exhibition Centre, the Feel the Noise - Rock and Youth Culture in Espoo exhibition at KAMU WeeGee attracted a large number of museum visitors. KAMU WeeGee was closed in October due to a major renovation of the entire museum complex, and a new temporary exhibition will open again in spring 2026.
The exhibition at the Villa Museum Villa Rulludd was renewed, and the museum celebrated its 20th anniversary in September. The museum is located on the second floor of a villa built in 1873 for the Kihlman family. There visitors can experience the atmosphere of traditional summer villa holidays enjoyed by Helsinki residents over a century ago.
The concept renewal of the Lagstad School Museum was completed, and the museum will open to the public in February 2026. The renewal was carried out in collaboration with several of Espoo’s communities. The museum’s focus is on learning. Lagstad is a new type of space and meeting place emphasizing independent and community-based activities, welcoming everyone. The museum will be opened on 21 February 2026.
The sunny Archipelago Museum Pentala welcomed a record number of visitors. The museum was open to the public from June to August, and additionally on a few days in May and September for school groups.
The first phase of the survey project on Espoo’s built environment from the 1980s and 1990s was completed. The project covered all public buildings and primarily serves Espoo’s urban planning, building control and facilities services.
In autumn, a historical publication about Villa Elfvik was also released. The over one-hundred-year-old Art Nouveau villa has housed a nature centre since 1992. The publication is available on KAMU’s website.
In addition, Marjo Poutanen was appointed as the new Museum Director of the KAMU Espoo City Museum. Poutanen holds a Master of Arts degree and will begin her new position on February 1, 2026.
