New housing will be built on an empty business property in Tapiola
An empty commercial building in the centre of Tapiola will be demolished and replaced by new apartments that will have business premises at the street level. The City Board will discuss amending the detailed plan for the centre of Tapiola (named Tapiolan keskus) and the approval of the land use agreement on Monday 15 December.
The empty commercial building is owned by Avara Ltd. Boknäs furniture store is one of the previous businesses that has operated in Länsituuli 4, but it has moved to new premises.
Avara will build around 115 free-funded rental apartments and business premises on the property. The plan amendment increases the permitted building volume by 5,200 floor square metres. The demolition of the commercial building should begin once the plan has been confirmed.
The location is very central, as it is close to the metro station, bus terminal and services in Tapiola. In the south, the area is bordered by the Länsituuli pedestrian street, and in the east, by Heikinkuja and a parking facility. Länsituulenaukio is to the north of the amended area, and it currently serves as a parking area. On the eastern side, there are two commercial and residential properties that belonged to the same plan area in the proposal stage but were removed from it in the approval stage.
The planned amendment area is owned by a private party. The two-storey commercial building was built at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s.
