The demolition of Keran Hallit has now begun. Kera Hub – the city-managed meeting place for everyone involved in the development of Kera – has found a new home in the gatehouse of the halls. Before being put into use, the premises will be refurbished in cooperation with young people from Omnia’s youth workshops.

The beloved Keran Hallit closed their doors in the summer, and demolition has now started. The halls are making way for a new sustainable city district. Between 2019 and 2025, the halls served as a temporary base for a variety of sports and cultural operators, city events, and entrepreneurs.

The city managed a shared workspace for local operators and developers at the halls, called Kera Hub. The Hub was primarily used for work, but it also served as a meeting place for city experts, local developers and city residents. With the closure of Keran Hallit, the Hub also had to close.

However, we still want to be present in the area. The new premises were eventually found surprisingly close by, as it turned out that the iconic gatehouse of the halls does not need to be demolished yet. In the future, you can find Kera Hub in the gatehouse on the access road to the halls, next to Kera’s temporary day care centre.

New look through student cooperation

When the halls still served as a logistics centre, the gatehouse was the registration point for vehicles entering the halls. During the temporary use of the halls, the gatehouse was occupied by security guards who monitored the area through surveillance cameras. The space is already well equipped, for example in terms of technical solutions, but it needs a minor refurbishment.

The refurbishment will be carried out in cooperation with young people from Omnia’s youth workshops(external link, opens in a new window). The workshops offer young people without a job or study place the opportunity to try out a field that interests them and develop their working life skills. Students from the interior design workshop also created the unique look of the old Kera Hub.

The refurbishment is expected to be completed during the winter. This means the new Hub will open its doors in early 2026. You can stay up-to-date on the Hub’s opening and the new activities taking place there by following the Kera webpages.
