Applying for weighted-curriculum education

Finnish-language basic education offers a variety of different types of weighted-curriculum education. Find out more about the options and application deadlines for weighted-curriculum education below.

Applying for 1st grade in weighted-curriculum education between 8 and 20 January 2026  

In Espoo, it is possible to apply for Montessori, English, bilingual (Finnish-English) and Swedish-language immersion education from the 1st grade onwards.   

Applying for weighted-curriculum education starting in the first grade is done when enrolling for the first grade on Wilma. If necessary, a paper form is available on the city’s website and it is to be returned in accordance with the instructions on the form by 20 January 2026 at the latest.   

Applying for 3rd grade in weighted-curriculum education between 16 December 2025 and 9 January 2026  

In Espoo, it is possible to apply for weighted-curriculum education in mathematics and natural sciences or in music from the 3rd grade onwards.    

Second grade pupils can apply for weighted-curriculum education on Wilma between 16 December 2025 and 9 January 2026. If necessary, a paper form is available on the city’s website and it is to be returned to the pupil’s current school by 9 January 2025 at the latest.   

Applying for 7th grade in weighted-curriculum education between 8 and 15 January 2026  

From the 7th grade onwards, weighted-curriculum education is available in a variety of interests – pupils can apply for weighted-curriculum education in mathematics and natural sciences, in music, in dance, in physical education, in information technology, in visual arts and in performing arts. Pupils can also apply for the URHEA weighted-curriculum education in sports.  

Sixth grade pupils can apply for weighted-curriculum education on Wilma between 8 and 15 January 2026. If necessary, a paper form is available on the city’s website and it is to be returned to the pupil’s current school by 15 January 2026 at the latest.
