Ulla Lehtonen and Jussi Paavola appointed as new unit directors in Espoo’s Growth and Learning Sector

The City of Espoo’s Growth and Learning Sector has appointed two new directors in permanent positions: Ulla Lehtonen (MEd, eMBA) as the Director of Finnish Early Childhood Education and Jussi Paavola (MA) as the Director of Upper Secondary Education.
Lehtonen has served as the Director of Early Childhood Education at the City of Järvenpää since 2023. Previously, she worked for the City of Helsinki, for example as the Director of Early Childhood Education and as an early childhood education district manager.
Paavola has served as the Service Area Director of General Upper Secondary Education and General Adult Education at the City of Turku since 2021. He has previously worked as the principal of Rauman Lyseon lukio and Uudenkaupungin lukio.
They will both report to Merja Narvo-Akkola, Deputy Mayor for Growth and Learning, and serve as members of the sector’s management team.
The Growth and Learning Sector is comprised of the following units: Finnish Early Childhood Education, Finnish Basic Education, Finnish Upper Secondary Education and Youth Services, and Swedish Education and Cultural Services.
