Opening of Kirkkojärventie bridge is further delayed

The opening of the Kirkkojärventie bridge to traffic is delayed from the original schedule. According to the current estimate, the bridge will be opened in March 2026.
The renovation of the Kirkkojärventie bridge in Espoon keskus and the work on the retaining walls of the future bicycle and pedestrian path and the railway line running under the bridge began on 5 May 2025, and the bridge was closed to all traffic. The bridge closure is part of the Espoo Rail Line construction project.
According to the original schedule, the bridge was to be opened to traffic in October 2025. During excavation work, it was discovered that the ground conditions differ from the plans. As a result, changes were also made to the construction of the retaining walls of the bridge. This delayed the overall project schedule, and the new completion date was to be in December 2025.
During the autumn, the construction work has progressed so that the bridge deck is almost complete, but the retaining walls are not. For this reason, the bridge cannot be opened to traffic this year, contrary to the previous estimate.
