Free public transport tickets encourage arriving to the Nature Forum in a sustainable manner
The Nature Forum encourages ecological lifestyles not only via discussions but also by concrete nudging. The HSL event ticket offered by the event guides visitors toward sustainable mobility.
The Nature Forum brings together 600 experts to discuss the next steps toward a nature-positive future. We want to take advantage of the opportunity arising from organising a large event and make impactful choices beyond the seminar programme. The goals of sustainable development and carbon neutrality have been considered in the entire event, and one example of this is the free HSL event ticket for participants.
Event tickets have already been used in Espoo events, and it has received positive feedback from both organisers and visitors. Traffic accounts for around one third of the city’s total emissions, meaning that promoting sustainable transport is an integral part of the city’s work to promote carbon neutrality.
“We make choosing low-emission mobility an increasingly natural part of the daily life of residents with free event tickets. At the same time, we set an example for other event organisers. The event ticket is an example of nudging: a small nudge makes it easy to choose a sustainable alternative,” explains Veli-Pekka Korhonen, Senior Specialist on sustainable mobility at the City of Espoo.
The HSL event ticket concept is easy for both the event organiser and the participant: the participant receives a ticket code created by HSL from the organiser, the HSL application on the participant’s phone then identifies the code and converts it into the agreed-on ticket type.
“It has been great to collaborate at events organised by the City of Espoo and see how our ticket codes work for both event organisers and participants. HSL is interested in increasing the use of public transport, and tickets for event visitors are one way to attract new people to public transport,” says Artturi Järvi, Business Development Manager at HSL.
In addition to public transport tickets, sustainable development has been taken into consideration in the catering of the event, for example. All food served at the event will be completely plant-based. We will not gift any products either.
