Cycling routes with intensified winter maintenance 2025-2028
The municipal boundary for intensified maintenance between Helsinki and Espoo is in Vermo, from where the route continues to Leppävaara. From there, the route branches off through Tarvaspää to Munkkiniemi and along Ring I to Otaniemi. From Otaniemi, the route continues through Lehtisaari to Helsinki and via Tapiola along Länsiväylä to Matinkylä. The route running next to Länsiväylä is partly maintained by the ELY Centre and partly by a service provider of Espoo’s Public Works Department. The total length of the route is nearly 24 kilometres.
The routes are swept and salted from Monday to Friday between 7:00 and 19:00 and on weekends and public holidays between 7:00 and 17:00. At other times, a snow accumulation of up to three centimetres is allowed on the route, provided that the route is cleared of snow and slush by 7:00 when the sweeping and salting starts.
The route is maintained across its full width in areas where it runs on the carriageway or is shared between pedestrians and cyclists. This avoids potential quality differences between different sections of the route.
You can find cycling routes with intensified winter maintenance in Espoo’s map service(external link, opens in a new window). In the top left corner, click on ‘Select what information is shown on the map’. At the bottom of the ‘Streets and Parks’ menu, select ‘Swept and salted bicycle routes’.
