Diplomats explored Espoo’s innovation community

Espoo Innovation Day offered the diplomatic community an opportunity to experience Espoo’s innovation culture.
Espoo Innovation Day, held yesterday on 20 August 2025, brought ambassadors and other representatives serving Finland abroad to Otaniemi to explore what makes Espoo a unique innovation hub.
“In Espoo, we believe that innovation is born through collaboration – when people from different backgrounds come together to share expertise and co-create solutions that shape the world,” said Mayor Kai Mykkänen in his speech to the diplomatic community.
During the event, guests learned about the work of Aalto University and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, as well as top solutions developed in Espoo – ranging from 5G and 6G technologies to bio-based materials and quantum technology.
Espoo Innovation Day has established its place as a way to strengthen Espoo’s position as Northern Europe’s most internationally attractive hub of knowledge, science, art and business innovation. The event also deepens Espoo’s networks with embassies.
“It is important that we can share the Espoo Story with those who represent Finland abroad. Embassies play a key role in attracting investments and companies, as well as in facilitating practical cooperation. With this event, organised together with our partners, we strengthen Espoo’s international visibility as a city of innovation,” said Milla Ovaska, Head of International Affairs at the City of Espoo.
In addition to meeting operators in the innovation community, the diplomats were also introduced to services provided by the City of Espoo.
