At its meeting on Wednesday 21 May 2025, the Technical Services Committee approved the plan to build a skatepark in the Laaksolahti sports park. Construction work is due to start in 2026.

The plan is to build the skatepark on the southwestern side of the athletics field, in the area between the running track, Lähdepurontie and the path leading to the sports halls. The aim is to create a pleasant and safe area for all skateboarders and those interested in other roller sports.

The map shows the location of the Laaksolahti sports park. The skatepark is marked with a blue line.

About 850 square metres of concrete will be laid in the skatepark, featuring various elements for skateboarding and scootering. The elements to be installed in the concrete area are made of concrete, with metal and natural stone components. The skatepark will be separated from other areas in the sports park with a two-metre wire fence. Floodlights will also be installed to ensure even lighting. It will be possible to turn off the floodlights at night so that they will not bother local residents.

Benches, litter bins and bike racks will be placed near the entrance of the skatepark. A new pedestrian crossing will be built across Lähdepurontie to provide a safe route to the skatepark and the athletics field.

The estimated cost of the skatepark is EUR 700,000, excluding value-added tax. The exact cost will be determined during the construction planning stage.

The need for the park was identified in the Espoo skatepark programme 2014–2024, and the preparation of a park plan for the Laaksolahti skatepark started in the autumn of 2024. The skatepark has been developed together with skateboarders at workshops held in the Tapiola indoor skatepark in November 2024 and January 2025. The draft plan was available for public review and comments on the Otakantaa.fi website in March 2025.

The construction of the skatepark is due to start in 2026.
