The Tapiola swimming pool renovation and extension project has started with demolition and excavation work. Due to the excavation work, the children’s wading pool will be closed all summer. The Tapiola Central Basin will also be temporarily emptied in June. The renovated swimming pool will open its doors in 2028.

The Tapiola Central Basin was emptied on 5 June for about six weeks due to excavation work in areas next to the basin. Once the work is completed, the basin will be refilled. The basin was emptied to prevent any damage to its technical systems.

The project is progressing rapidly, so the children’s wading pool located next to the Tapiola swimming pool will also be closed this summer for safety reasons. The wading pool will be reopened once the renovation work is completed.

In the spring, the City of Espoo selected YIT to carry out the project. Preparations for the construction work started in May 2025, and the swimming pool is expected to be completed in spring 2028.

The cityscape-related and architectural values of the building are being taken into account during planning and construction. Located next to the Central Basin, the Tapiola swimming pool was built in 1965 and designed by architect Aarne Ervi as an important part of the Tapiola centre and its cultural environment.
