In November 2024, the City Planning Department surveyed the safety of pick-up and drop-off traffic and the safety of school or day-care trips with an extensive survey for parents. On a scale of 0 to 10, the parents of day care-aged children gave a general grade of 7.4 for safety, while the grade was 6.8 for parents of schoolchildren. We received a total of 4,920 responses – thanks to all parents that took part in the survey.

The pick-up and drop-off traffic survey studied parent opinions on pick-up and drop-off traffic and day care centre and school journeys. This was the first survey of its kind. We prepared separate surveys for the parents of schoolchildren and the parents of day care-aged children. 2,967 of the responses were from the parents of day care-aged children and 1,953 were from the parents of schoolchildren, for a total of 4,920.

In addition to safety, the survey looked at the mode of transport in different seasons and the duration and capacity of parking. We have now reviewed the results of the survey, and more detailed analysis is still ongoing. The responses will be used in traffic planning as one data source.
