Again this summer, the City of Espoo offers about 400 young people an opportunity to gain work experience and learn about tasks in different fields. We received a record number of applications, 14,000 in total, which is more than twice as many as the year before.

We have employed young people to work in property management and maintenance, green area maintenance, sports and youth services and in assistive jobs in early childhood education. The City Planning Department, Environment and Building Control Department and Financial Services also offer summer jobs.

Applicants were most interested in jobs related to green area maintenance, such as park and playground renovation and maintenance, as well as a library assistant’s work.

Summer jobs typically last about a month, and they offer young people meaningful and educational experiences in the world of work.

In addition, the City of Espoo has given young people about 1,600 summer job vouchers. The summer job voucher encourages employers to hire young people. The city pays EUR 350 to an employer who hires a young Espoo resident (born 2006–2010) between 1 May and 30 September.
