Continue studying your mother tongue in general upper secondary school!
During the school year 2026–2027, Espoo’s general upper secondary schools offer study units in Arabic, Kurdish, Mandarin, Somali, Estonian and Russian. Students receive credits for these study units, just like all other study units. Lessons are held in the evening, so they do not overlap with other studies.
We encourage students to study their mother tongue. We believe that strong mother tongue skills support learning in other subjects and promote students’ wellbeing. These lessons offer students a chance to study in their heart language.
Students who study in Espoo’s general upper secondary schools can register for mother tongue study units on Wilma, just like any other study units. Registration is now open! You can register for study units starting in early autumn until 21 August. Lessons start in the week of 24 August (week 35).
