Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters awards teacher Lauri Hellsten from Espoon yhteislyseo

The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters has awarded eight prominent researchers for their significant scientific achievements. The prizes were presented at the Society’s Annual Celebration on 29 April 2025. Three general upper secondary school teachers also received prizes. One of the prize receivers was teacher Lauri Hellsten from Espoon yhteislyseo general upper secondary school. Hellsten teaches mathematics and physics.
Hellsten was awarded a teacher prize worth 5,000 euros. Espoon yhteislyseo was also awarded €2,000 for the development of the relevant subject area.
In its prize citation, The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters states, among other things: “He has continuously developed his teaching methods in response to student feedback and has actively collaborated with the LUMA Centre (a science education network of Finnish universities) and other parties. Hellsten was also named Mathematical Sciences Teacher of the Year 2023 by the Finnish Association for Teachers of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Informatics (MAOL ry).
