The first building to be constructed in the area will be Asuntosäätiö’s right-of-occupancy property, with 50 homes. It will be constructed by SRV. The whole Mårtensbro area will have homes for around 1,800 people.

The construction of Asuntosäätiö’s eight-storey residential building will begin in June 2025 and is expected to be completed in autumn 2026. The City of Espoo and Asuntosäätiö signed a land lease agreement on Tuesday, 27 May. The property will be one of Espoo’s last right-of-occupancy projects to be launched with state support as the granting of interest subsidy loans for new right-of-occupancy projects will end in 2025.

The Mårtensbro area, for which SRV has a planning reservation, consists of three blocks. The first block to be built in the area will have almost 450 homes. SRV is planning to build non-subsidised owner-occupied and rental homes in the area. The city also intends to assign plots in the area to other operators. There will also be some brick-and-mortar premises in the area, particularly along Espoonlahdenkatu.

When the entire area is completed, it will have an estimated 1,800 residents.

Mårtensbro is centrally located with access to a wide range of services and excellent transport connections. It is located opposite the Lippulaiva shopping centre and bordered by Espoonlahdenkatu, Ulappakatu, Höyrylaivantie and Espoonlahdenranta. The site was previously home to the temporary Pikkulaiva shopping centre.

Next to the site is the Tähystäjä day-care centre, completed in autumn 2024. The building is home to both a Finnish-language and a Swedish-language day-care centre, both of which have seven groups.

The goal is to attract nearly 10,000 new residents and 1,400 new jobs to the Espoonlahti centre area, in the immediate vicinity of the metro station, by the year 2050. The development of Mårtensbro plays a significant role in achieving this goal.
