Espoo City Library and the Children's Cultural centre Aurora are organizing the children's elections 2.4.-13.4.2025
Espoo City libraries support children's democracy education by organizing their own elections during the regional and municipal elections. All children can exercise their right to vote and influence which characters are elected to the library's own council to promote the interests of Espoo's children in the Espoo City Library. In Espoo's libraries and in the Children's Cultural Centre Aurora, children can vote for the characters standing in their own elections.
Through play, children will learn important civic and democratic skills, such as the importance of voting and the right to vote, as well as practices related to the electoral process. Children's elections provide an opportunity to talk to children about the importance of voting and to make the electoral process more familiar to them by encouraging them to vote.
The candidates for the children's elections are familiar from the Literature Food Cycle. The candidates are:
- Fox
- Bear
- Bunny
- Swan
- Owl
- Badger
The illustrations for the Literary Food Circle are created by Eveliina Netti.
You can vote between 2.4.-13.4.2025. You can vote in the Entresse library, Iso Omena library. Lippulaiva library, Sello library and Tapiola library during their opening hours. You can also vote at the Children's Cultural Centre Aurora from Mon 2.4.- Sat 12.4.2025 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All children and child-minded people are welcome to exercise their right to vote and influence which characters are elected to the library's own council!
The results will be announced on 22.4.2025 in the libraries and in the Children's Cultural Centre Aurora. The educational aim is to ensure that young voters understand how to cast their vote, why elections are important and how each vote cast makes a difference. After the elections, the elected councillors of the library council will collect children's wishes on what they want to see in the library. The councillor takes the wishes to the council (library staff) where each wish is discussed. The libraries will implement all approved and feasible wishes during the summer and autumn.
Welcome to vote!
